Strut-Worthy Savings: How to Score the Best Marshalls Boot & Shoe Deals

There is nothing quite like that weird little hit of adrenaline when you stumble onto a pair of genuinely high-end leather boots at Marshalls, look at the tag, and realize they cost less than a casual dinner out. But let’s be real—half the time you walk into the shoe section, it looks like a tornado hit a garage sale. You find one gorgeous boot in a size 6, its partner is missing, and everything else is just picked-over canvas sneakers.

The thing people miss is that scoring the actual designer stuff isn’t just pure luck. It’s mostly about understanding how the store works behind the scenes. Finding cheap boots at Marshalls is a year-round sport if you know what to look for.

Most people just look at the price and move on, but the color of that little sticker tells you exactly how desperate the store is to get rid of the shoe. White tags are just the regular Marshalls price—still cheaper than a department store, but nothing crazy yet. Red tags mean it’s hit markdown status, which is definitely worth a second look. But yellow tags are what you actually want. That’s the absolute final clearance price. They just want it out of the store to make room for new shipments. If you see a yellow tag on a brand you love, grab it immediately. They usually hit their peak around January and August when they clear out the seasons.

Oh, and look closely at the stickers. If you see a shoe where they’ve literally slapped three or four yellow stickers right on top of each other, that’s usually where the ridiculous $15 designer finds happen.

Timing is the other half of the battle. If you’re going on a Saturday afternoon, you’re basically fighting for leftovers. Marshalls usually gets their big inventory trucks and restocks the floor on weekdays—mostly Tuesday through Thursday. If you can manage a quick run on a Wednesday morning right after they open, the shelves are actually organized, the staff just put out the fresh arrivals, and you won’t have to trip over anyone in the aisle.

You also have to look out for a weird quirk in how they manage inventory. Because items arrive in rolling batches, markdowns are based on how long an individual item has been sitting on that specific shelf. I’ve seen it happen plenty of times: you find a pair of booties you like for $45. Look around the rack. If there’s an identical pair that arrived three weeks earlier, it might already have a red markdown sticker making it $30. Always do a quick scan for duplicates before you walk to the register.

While you're looking, don't just stare at your exact size section either. People pick up shoes, carry them three aisles over, change their minds, and just shove them onto whatever shelf is closest. It’s annoying, but you can use it to your advantage. If you wear a size 8, look at the 7s and the 9s. A lot of times, the best stuff is just hiding in the wrong section because someone got lazy while shopping.

Lastly, don't be afraid to speak up if a pair is a little beat up. Because these shoes get handled a ton, they get a little banged up. If you find a killer pair of boots but they have a light scratch on the leather or a scuff on the heel, don’t put them back. Take them up to the register or find a manager and just ask politely if they can knock a bit more off. They want to move inventory, and half the time they’ll give you an extra 10% or 15% off just to get it out the door. A little leather conditioner later, and you’ve got a massive steal.
